The Mountain melody in detail Notes and harmonics The Mountain melody belongs to the Earth Symphony collection, a living symphony of four harmonic chimes inspired by the great landscapes of Nature: Mountain, Forest, River and Ocean. Earth Symphony is tuned to 440 Hz and is based on a broad sonic architecture. Each chime has twelve rods, four of which are identically doubled at the same frequencies, also known as “sympathetic resonators.” This sonic architecture gives it greater depth and a rich, immersive resonance. Comprising of the notes G# G# A A B B E G# A B the Mountain melody corresponds to E major. Its twelve rods are tuned by hand, with reference to 440 Hz, until they find their right place within the harmonic ensemble. The four melodies of the Earth Symphony collection were designed to be played alone or in dialogue with one another within the same collection. Mountain, Forest, River and Ocean can therefore respond freely to one another: their chords remain coherent, whatever combination is chosen.

Mountain stands out with a broad, grounded and contemplative resonance. Its melody is inspired by the mountain and may evoke height, silence, stability and presence. Its twelve rods extend the resonance and give the Koshi Mountain chime a broader presence. The notes appear, respond to one another, then slowly fade away.

How to play the Koshi Mountain chime Basic movements Hold the Koshi Mountain chime by its cord and let it hang freely. Turn it gently with a slight movement of the wrist: the central clapper sets the rods into vibration and brings forth a cascade of broad and deep notes. The broader the movement, the more the rods are set in motion. Or swing it gently in a pendulum motion to play individual notes. The Koshi chime can also simply be suspended, allowing the wind to play it through melodies that are always unexpected. Handcrafted production and specifications Hand-tuned in the Pyrenees Each Koshi Mountain chime is hand-crafted at the foot of the French Pyrenees. The craftsperson solders twelve steel rods with silver onto a metal base, then tunes them one by one, with meticulous attention to their pitch and accuracy. The fine-wood resonance chamber amplifies the vibrations and gives the Koshi chime its long, clear and warm resonance.
